Horrible Pictures (2016)
Shot and edited in Google Nexus 5.
R. Cotroneo argued that “smartphones are deceiving us” in making us shoot “horrible pictures”, pictures that are only seemingly beautiful but in fact they are simply tiny positive film on a lightbox. As I was reading I found this concept terribly fascinating… And aren’t horrible pictures a blessing in an age of mandatory beautification of the vision? “The hidden medium is designed to never be wrong (…) it must be therefore deceived to interpret a situation in the wrong way a produce a wrong result.” I allow the beautifying medium to fail and bring its failings to the hardest consequences through an overstated postproduction that takes place in the medium itself.
